In celebration of the 47th anniversary of Capitol Medical Center, the Department of Pediatrics recently held its 22nd Annual Scientific Symposium entitled, “#[email protected]: Integrating Laboratory Examinations in Pediatric Practice” last June 14, 2017 at Novotel Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City.  This activity was made possible through the leadership of its over-all chairman,  Agnes Falcotelo, MD, with the support of its Department Chairman, Lucilla Naidas, MD, in collaboration with all active consultants, residents-in-training and post-graduate interns. The well-attended program covered several topics on the judicious use of laboratory & ancillary procedures encompassing the  different subspecialties relevant to both General Pediatricians and allied healthcare providers. The following high-yield lectures were prepared &   presented by active subspecialty consultants from the Department: ABCs  of CBC by  Rodelia Lacson, MD (Hematology), Cardiac Evaluation: When   Are EKG & 2D Echo Needed? By  Martha Santiago, MD (Cardiology),  Fecalysis & Liver Function Tests: A Review by Marilou Tan, MD (Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition), Value & Interpretation of Neurologic Diagnostic Procedures by Marissa Lukban, MD (Neurology), Urinalysis Revisited by  Esther Tan-Medina, MD (Nephrology), Basic Infectious Work-up: A Review by  Edna Sunga-Mallorca, MD (Infectious Disease) and Proper Utilization  of Chest X-ray & ABG by  Arnel Jiao, MD (Pulmonology).

The event drew positive feedback from majority of the participants comprising  of Pediatric consultants, residents, & health-related professionals.  Through this fruitful endeavor, the Department of Pediatrics continues its commitment  to CMC’s mission of promoting excellence in total quality health care delivery.
