Consistent to RA 10028 or the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009, the Department of Health-National Capital Region awarded Capitol Medical Center (CMC), the certification as a “Mother & Baby Friendly Health Facility” .
A “mother-baby friendly health facility ” certification means that Capitol Medical Center ensures the promotion and practice of breastfeeding by providing healthy and safe working conditions for women through the establishment of a lactation station or facility.
In recognition of the well documented health advantages of breastfeeding for infants and mothers, that CMC provides a supportive environment to enable breastfeeding employees to express their milk during work hours. This includes a company-wide lactation support program administered by the Breastfeeding Committee. CMC subscribed to the following work site support policy. This policy shall be communicated to all current employees and included in the New Employee Orientation. The CMC Lactation Room, an area specifically intended for breastfeeding, is available for employees and visitors where they can breastfeed or express milk. Employees are allowed to breastfeed or express milk for a maximum of 40 minutes, which may be used as needed during their eight (8) hour tour of duty. A well-lighted and clean room with comfortable sofa, it is a private room equipped with breastfeeding equipment and a sink with running water for washing hands and rinsing, electric breast pumps to assist breastfeeding employees and visitors with milk expression during work hours. Expressed milk can be stored in in the NICU’s refrigerator or freezer. The room is located at the 4th floor CMC Bldg.l fronting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), across the Delivery Room.
