I.P.O.D. - Integrated Program on Organ Donation
The Integrated Program on Organ Donation Foundation Inc. (IPOD) is a non stock, non profit agency mainly serving Metro Manila. IPOD is a world class primary deceased organ donation facilitating institution in the country and in the Asia Pacific Region. The organ procurement program is equitable, just fair, ethical and morally responsible so that no Filipino with end stage organ failure will linger, suffer or die due to insufficient organ supply.
IPOD was organized in response to the growing disparity between living and deceased donation. According to the Philippine Renal Disease Registry Report for 2008, 97% came from living donors. The Philippines has only averaged 15 deceased organ donors each year from 1999 to 2007. The report also revealed that 10,000 to 12,000 Filipinos develop end stage renal disease, half of which are eligible for kidney transplant. Out of 5,000 patients eligible for kidney transplant, less than 10 percent actually undergo surgery because of insufficient organ supply.
IPOD envisions a Philippines where everyone says yes to deceased organ donation and where no Filipino would die waiting for an organ. Its primary objective is to establish, promote, develop, undertake, finance, support, and assist a rationalized human organ procurement program in the Philippines order to provide a steady supply of deceased donor organs to patients with end stage organ disease and of such other diseases where organ transplantation is medically feasible and legally permissible.
Its secondary purposes are to promote the deceased organ donation program through education and training as well as participate in research efforts towards highly successful solid organ transplantations. It also aims to participate in activities of civil and medical organizations involved with end organ diseases as well as affiliate and participate with international organizations working on end organ diseases.
IPOD office is located 1144 Quezon Avenue, Barangay Paligsahan, Quezon City. |
