CMC Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
The examination of the internal organs is the utmost importance to a physician so he can best diagnose the patient’s disease and recommend a treatment or plan and execute a proper surgery. This is why doctors often rely on Magnetic Resonance Imaging or MRI, for short. The MRI is a very modern non-invasive method to see what’s inside a person’s body. The MRI generates clear images, however many patients get anxious and claustrophobic in this setting.
Capitol Medical Center offers the Open Type .04 Tesla has the highest magnetic field strength. It can generate multiplanar images that are also comparable to those produced by the closed MRI, with a lot less stress to the patient.
“ We want to give the patient options so we decided to have an open MRI.” Says Dr. Ramon Santos-Ocampo, head of the MRI Section of the Capitol Medical Center.
One advantage of MRI examination is the intravenous contrast that allows clear visualization and delineation of the abnormalities of many parts of the body. The intravenous contrast is Gadolinium –based and relatively safe among patients. Gadolinium causes fewer allergic reactions compared to iodine-based contrast.
To underscore its safety, Dr. Santos-Ocampo says that the Open MRI is safe for pregnant women and babies.
Therefore, the Open MRI is truly comfortable, safe and helpful both to the patient and to the doctor diagnosing the illness. It is excellent for examining the head, spine and muscles.
“The application for the Open MRI are expanding, “adds Dr. Santos-Ocampo. “It is a very powerful tool the detecting tumors in the abdomen and checking obstruction in the kidney and liver, injuries to the shoulders, knees and hip. It is also a useful tool in investigating patients with headaches and loss of consciousness.”
