The intravenous contrast is Gadolinium –based and relatively safe among patients. Gadolinium causes fewer allergic reactions compared to iodine-based contrast.

To underscore its safety, Dr. Santos-Ocampo says that the Open MRI is safe for pregnant women and babies.

“The application for the Open MRI are expanding, “adds Dr. Santos-Ocampo. “It is a very powerful tool the detecting tumors in the abdomen and checking obstruction in the kidney and liver, injuries to the shoulders, knees and hip. It is also a useful tool in investigating patients with headaches and loss of consciousness.”
