The start of 2008 for the Department of Pediatrics has been a successful one. CMC graduate residents in Pediatrics successfully hurdled the ‘Philippine Pediatric Society Specialty Board Examinations both in oral and written categories.

Two (2) research papers of the department entitled “The Association of Waist Circumference and Highly Sensitive CRP among Overweight Adolescent aged 10-18 years” and “The Use of Multistrain Probiotics in the Prevention of Community Acquired Diarrhea in Underweight Children 6 months to 6 years old: A Community-based Pilot Study won 2nd and 1st prize in the recently held PPS Annual Convention Research Paper Contest for non-communicable diseases and for community pediatrics respectively.

During the 38th Anniversary, the department held its 13th Annual Scientific Symposium entitled: “Reconciling Clinical Experience with Evidence Based Practice: An Interactive Symposium. The symposium aims to review conventional and current management options of common medical condition in pediatrics as well as to present evidences for alternative and new modalities in the treatment of common pediatric illness.

The pediatric consultants and residents attended the Evidence Based Medicine Workshop last February and recently had our team building in Eugenio Lopez Center, Antipolo City. We are continuously conducting community projects in 2 adopted communities namely, Brgy.San Antonio and Brgy. Paligsahan in cooperation with the CMC administration
Last March 14, 2008, the pediatric residency training was accredited as level 1 for 3 years by the PPS-Hospital Accreditation Board.

Kudos to the Training and Research Committee of the Department and the full support of the administration.
